On invitation of the DoelenEnsemble my image “Birch tree” from the series Arctic light was shown on the 16th of november 2018 in Concertgebouw de Doelen in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, during the live performance of the musical poetry competition Piano Slam. It was an intriguing combination of poetry and dance by teenagers, my image and music of Nouela performed by two young top pianists. The young dancers from Dansgroep RAW threw snowballs in an imaginary landscape, illustrated by my image.

Arctic light at landschappelijk schoon concert

Solo Exhibition 2016 Arctic Light around concert and dance performance Landschappelijk schoon by DoelenEnsemble and Codarts Dans. The exhibition was in the Port of Rotterdam foyer of the great concerthall De Doelen in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The DoelenEnsemble and the dance department of Codarts perform works that are inspired on the landscape by a.o. John Cage, Florian Magnus Maier and Alan Hovhaness. The exhibition contains tranquil images that match the music, they were made by Johannes Bosgra in 2016 on the Lofoten in Norway. The special arctic light on the Lofoten islands in Norway inspired Bosgra to create a series of images which capture the subtle colors and atmosphere in this expressive polar landscape. “I aimed to capture the soft arctic light in the sea and air, to balance out the hardness of the mountains and fjords. The result is a series of images with a sophisticated tonal composition. When I'm creating a composition for an image I'm inspired by contemporary classical music. I want to translate the music in my head into rhythm, tones and harmony in my images."

PROJECTIONS AT Concert Des canyons aux étoiles

My images of the Grand Canyon were projected during concerts of Des canyons aux étoiles, a key work of Messiaen, in the great concert halls in De Doelen in Rotterdam, Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and in the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf, Germany in 2014. Performed by the DoelenEnsemble and Notabu Ensemble Neue Musik and conducted by Arie van Beek. Messiaen was inspired by the spectacular and colourful canyons in Utah and Arizona. The images were specifically selected to make the musical and visual languages work together to create a sophisticated audiovisual experience for the visitors. The images were made by me in 2004.
